Raj Khatoli

This issue is designed to be printed from a plate that can take removable plugs for the bits that change - the denomination in figures and words. Thus a single plate can be used and modified with plugs that hold these inscriptions.

Here’s an example of a single cliche which was being used to make up a sheet of the Court Fee stamps of Raj Khatoli (a subordinate Court to Kotah which is marked on the map). You can see that the two inscriptions for the denomination are not present. What is really interesting is that they seem to have been rather brutally removed, as if the plate included them at first, but was then altered. We shall return to this point.
