This poorly-inked handstamp of what appears to be a very worn type was used very late in the valid period, December 1972. Other points of interest; it appears to her been used on Christmas Day, 25-12-72, and the postmark [EXPTL R.M.S. RMS-38] is clearly of an Experimental Railway Mail Service office. ‘Experimental’ postmarks are used for post offices that have just been opened, and may not be viable. These markings are well-known by postal historians, but not for the Railway Mail Service. RMS Offices are found at Railway Stations in large towns where mail is loaded and unloaded. Their existence, until the system was recently abolished has been established and persistent.
