265as - Dibrugarh

Added to meter mail at Digboi. BOC stands for the Burmah Oil Company, which was the parent of the Assam Oil Company, now part of India Oil.

Dimapur is the main town in the State of Nagaland

This handstamp, which is similar but not identical, from Pathsala, Kamrup District, 25 December 1971, and Digboi and Doom  Dooma, Lakhimpur District.

Herr Ahlers reports 265as from Silchar, Cachar District, in 2mm type, 6 May 1972, and Tinsukia, in 3mm type, 26 October 1972.

Herer is a much smaller handstamp, on a single cover from Gauhati, 10 April 1972. The sender, S.S. Deka, was presumably a philatelist, so perhaps the stamp came from his own collection! Because I do not know of a similar handstamp in use any nearer to Assam than Gujarat!
